Although the R G Carter Group had its original roots in Drayton, the builder’s name will always be synonymous with Harleston.
Yet the name it has recently readopted could arguably be even better known in the town, as Blackburns was a company of much repute back in the early 1950s, and indeed, relatives of that local building family still live in Harleston today.

The ethos of intrinsic skills continues in what is one of Britain’s leading family owned construction businesses. Founder, George (RG) Carter was a carpenter himself and that hands-on approach is consistently recognised over the generations who have succeeded. Today R G Carter Holdings Limited is chaired by Robert Carter whose day to day communication with the company’s regional directors ensures that a balanced and comprehensive range of services runs smoothly.

In fact the Blackburns name was retained up until the 1970s when the corporate title became integrated. However in January 2005 the original name was re-championed in order to re-identify with the local community. For, as ever, whilst this substantial building group has the capability to undertake even the largest construction contract, its basic roots are still embedded in all forms of building work. In fact their overall size, staffing levels and resources actually add considerable flexibility to their efficient armoury.

15 office staff operate around 25 site staff, all skills are in-house, occasioned by time served traditional tradesmen who meet all industry standards. Many staff are second and third generation employees, many related, several have recently retired after spending their entire working life at the Company.
